Short stories
I believe that there are a lot of similarities between street photography and the short story. Both most often offer the reader/viewer slices of life, les tranches de vie, fragments of a bigger story. They focus on a self-contained incident (or series of incidents) with the intent of evoking a single effect or mood. The photographs by Brassaï, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander or Daido Moriyama can be read as if they were short stories by Mark Twain, Truman Capote, Raymond Carver or Haruki Murakami. That's what crossed my mind while I was post-processing this image. That and the fact that the composition reminded me of De Stijl and Piet Mondriaan, but without the colours.
