Closing time at one of the local watering-holes in Jerusalems Machane Yehuda Market

It's an interesting place, Machane Yehuda! A contrast between the old ways and the new ways. What used to be (and still is to some degree), the main hub of outdoor shopping in Jerusalem, has also transformed into a popular center for the city's nightlife. As the small market stalls are closing down for the day the pubs and clubs are just starting to open. And then, like in this photo, when the market vendors are opening their doors first thing in the morning, the pubs and clubs are cleaning up and closing down from their busy night.

Weaving their way through the labarynth of Jerusalem's Old City, worshippers come from all over the country to pray at Al-Aqsa during Ramadan

Some things will never change. Just another day in the Arab Shuk. I captured this image just outside of The 7th Station of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa.

Pilgrams of all religions have been decending upon Jerusalem since the dawn of time. In ancient days Jewish pilgrams would come 3 times a year and pray at the Holy Temple when it was standing. Now they come to pray at the Western Wall. Muslims come and pray at Al-Aqsa and the Christian population come to pray at The Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Pictured here is just another typical day on the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalems Old City.

Delayed Again in Amsterdam Airport!

For hundreds of years games have always been played in the shuk. During the quiet times or siesta, the merchants would find a spot, erect a make-shift table and play. Being a spectator is almost as fun, like in this case when one of the men started talking into the game, the others began to chastise him for doing so. But it's all in good nature and nobody holds a grudge. They'll be back tomorrow and the tomorrow after that, continuing this past-time.

There's nothing like shopping in an open-air market. The people, the food, the characters and everything is just so fresh.
