In Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala, the Easter processions are a blend of Catholic and Mayan traditions, with unique customs and rituals. On Good Friday, the statue of Christ is taken from the cross and placed in a glass coffin, then paraded through the streets. The Maya also believe Jesus is associated with the corn god, and the corn plant is seen as the incarnate body of Jesus' spirit.
