Major changes to Competitions
We’re happy to announce that our first competition has been a success, with over 70 photos submitted so far.
As this is our first competition, we’ve naturally run into a few issues. We just rolled out some major changes to how voting and participation work, taking effect immediately.
Here’s what changed and why.
Self-voting has been removed
You can no longer vote on your own submitted photo. If you had previously allocated points to your own entry, those points have been removed and credited back to you. You’re now free to redistribute them to other photos.
New measures against vote manipulation
Going forward, only members who are considered “active” on the platform can participate in voting and submitting photos to competitions. We’re intentionally not disclosing exactly what qualifies as “active”.
This is another layer of security to help prevent manipulation, like someone getting a friend to sign up purely to vote on their behalf. If you’re a genuine, engaged member of the community, this shouldn’t affect you.
Rankings have changed
With these measures now in place, the current competition’s ranking has shifted significantly compared to before. This doesn’t affect the submission or voting deadline. There’s still plenty of time left in Black & White Everything.
If you haven’t voted or submitted a photo yet, now is the time to do so. We’ll be keeping a close eye on votes and entries to make sure the competition stays fair for everyone.
As always, if you notice anything odd or have questions, please drop a comment below.

The competition should be changed so that people would have a lets say a week to upload the picture with no voting. And when the voting starts, you could not upload a picture anymore. Just so that every picture would have a same time to be voted.
@monkseal yes, we pointed that out in the blog post before. we’re going to have the next competition run like that with an uploading and a voting period.
Oh good.
Missed that comment.
I think seeing which images have already received a lot of points influences how people vote. You should only be able to see your own ratings, with the total scores for each image revealed only after the voting phase ends.
